Bullskin supervisors accept bid for road paving project

By Jackie Beranek 3 min read

BULLSKIN TWP. – A.C. Moyer turned in the lowest bid for the summer paving project on Wednesday. Moyer’s bid of $166,666.50 to resurface 15 roads in the township was accepted by the supervisors and a contract was awarded to the company.

Other bidders who competed for the project were Pompei and Sons, $204,204; Victor Paving, $178,228.05; New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., $172,172; Kendi Enterprise Inc., $167,091; and Donegal Construction, $189,459.

Supervisor John Coughenour said portions of Skate Lane, Moyer Road, Gault School Road, Greenlick Road, Sky Top Road, West Mountain View, Elm Drive, Rocky Ridge Road, Big Springs Road, Horseshoe Bend Road, Sweitzer Road, Buttermore Blvd., Sherrick Road, South Pennsville Street and Mudd School Road will be repaved with liquid fuels funds.

In a related matter, resident Eddie Heck said when the township gets a hard rain a portion of Gault School Road floods. Coughenour and supervisor William Geary said when paving begins on Gault Road sometime near the end of July they will have Moyer put a curb on that portion of the road to try and eliminate the problem for residents who live along the road.

Heck also said that the road needs to be graded and the catch basins need to be cleaned out.

Coughenour said, “We know there are problems up there. However, all we have had over the past five to six weeks is rain so we are running behind in what we need to do. As soon as the weather clears up we’ll get up there and take care of it.”

Bear Rocks resident Mark Fiano thanked the supervisors for having a fire hydrant in his “neck of the woods” fixed.

Merrit Manor resident James W. Carlton complained that after the last heavy downpour two weeks ago sewage backed up in his home again.

“We have lived there since 1979 and have suffered this kind of a backup about six time over the years,” said Carlton. “Something has to be done about this problem.”

Coughenour said the problem isn’t the townships.

“That problem belongs to the sewage authority,” said Coughenour. “You need to come to next week’s sewage authority meeting and talk to Dick Widmer (vice president of Widmer Engineering Inc.).”

Coughenour said the township has spent over $200,000 for new sewerage lines in that area over the past couple of years.

“We know that there are more broken terracotta pipes in the area but we don’t have the money to replace them right now,” said the supervisor. “We’re doing the best that we can with what we have.”

Geary announced that the Bullskin Township Volunteer Fire Company’s annual fair will be held at the Wooddale fair grounds on June 11-14. He also said that the annual Community Days would be held May 31 and June 1 at the fair grounds.
