Jane V. Shaw McPherson
Jane V. Shaw McPherson, age 92, of Connellsville, Pa., passed Friday morning, October 31, 2003 in LaFayette Manor, Uniontown, Pa. Born August 14, 1911 in Dubois, Pa., she was the daughter of William Edward Shaw and Rose Butler Shaw, wife of the late Clifford H. McPherson, Pharmacist in Uniontown, Pa., and sister of the late Charity Lorraine Taylor of Connellsville.
Survived by a special nephew, Roy W. Taylor and his wife, Denise, and grandnephew, Eric Taylor, all of Connellsville, grandniece, Heather L. Taylor of Washington, D.C., sister-in-law, Sara Jane Goode of Pittsburgh, Pa., nephew, William Goode of California, niece, Sharon Ryan of Minnesota, nephew, Anthony Proctor of Michigan, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Mrs. McPherson graduated from Connellsville High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from West Virginia State College and a Masters in Education from West Virginia University.
She taught English in Logan, West Virginia, Leaksville, North Carolina, Fairmont and Farmington, West Virginia, and Connellsville High School and was employed as a Caseworker for the Allegheny County Board of Assistance, Pittsburgh, Pa.
She retired from Connellsville High School in 1976.
Mrs. McPherson was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, West Virginia, Miss West Virginia State College, and Trustee and Financial Secretary of Payne AME Church, Connellsville.
Mrs. McPherson was the first black teacher in Connellsville and Fayette County.
Viewing Sunday, November 2, in Payne AME Church, 812 West Crawford Avenue, Connellsville, Pa., from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral on Monday, November 3, at 11 a.m. in Payne AME Church with Pastor Aquanetta Osborne and Assistant Pastor Henry Robinson officiating.
Interment follows in Monongahela Cemetery.
