Masontown woman named director

Bernadette Alexander was recently named as the new director of bereavement services for Albert Gallatin Home Care & Hospice. In this position, she is responsible for working as a member of the hospice team in developing, coordinating, supervising, providing and assuring bereavement services to hospice patients’ families.

Alexander received a master of science degree in community agency counseling and a bachelor of science degree in social work from California University of Pennsylvania.

Prior to her employment at Albert Gallatin Home Care & Hospice, she was employed by A.C.S. Psychological Services in Uniontown, where she served for the past three years as a school-based mental health resource specialist within the Uniontown Area School District.

She also worked as an outpatient and mobile therapist and as a behavioral service consultant in the community mental health setting.

Alexander became national board certified eligible after completing the national counselors examination. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the Pennsylvania Counselors Association (PCA) and the 1999 recipient of the Col. Arthur Bakewell Veterans Scholarship as an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

She resides with her husband, Denis Alexander Sr., in Masontown. They are the parents of Michael, Margo and Dennis II. Alexander is the daughter of Benjamin Varney of Uniontown.
