Thelma J. Shipe

Thelma Jean (Fum) Bennett Shipe, 76, of Allison No. 2, Pa., went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Mon Valley Hospital. She was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Allison No. 2, Pa., the fourth child born to the late John Albert Bennett and Inez Ruth Miller Bennett.

Thelma has been a lifelong resident of Allison No. 2, and graduated from Brownsville Area High School in 1945.

She and her husband, James Elwood Shipe celebrated their marriage of 52 years on June 30, 2003. Thelma was a charter member of the Allison Christian Church of Allison, Pa., where she was dedicated to prayer and support of the church’s mission to further its ministry of Jesus Christ. She will be lovingly missed by her church family.

Thelma was a former employee of Bell Telephone, and retired in 1984, from the U.S. Postal Service. Upon retirement, Thelma took pleasure in traveling with her husband and friends.

She is survived by her husband, James Elwood Shipe of Allison, Pa.; a sister, Audrey M. Bennett Marker and her husband, Leroy of Allison, Pa.; a brother, William Bennett and wife, Patricia of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Florence Bennett Keller, Eileen Ruth Bennett and Beatrice Bennett Johnson; and a brother, Delmar (Bert) Bennett.

The family will receive friends in the ROBERT T. KISH FUNERAL HOME INC., Legion Street, Republic, today from 10 to 11 a.m., in the Allison Christian Church, where services will be held with her pastor, the Rev. Michael Peton officiating. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in Thelma’s name to the Allison Christian Church.
