Belle Vernon School Board bids farewell to three departing members
BELLE VERNON – The Belle Vernon Area School Board is bidding farewell to three of its members as it prepares to reorganize in December. Frank Muccino, Ralph Iacoboni and Joseph Stringhill, who are leaving office, attended Monday’s regular meeting and were recognized for their service.
Director Edward Naylor told the three men they will be missed.
“We are sorry to see these directors leaving,” said Naylor.
Director Dale Patterson added that he appreciated the work that the three had done during their time on the board. “I’ve been here for two years and enjoyed working with all these men,” said Patterson. “Director Stringhill has served on this board for 16 years, and I think that says a lot about his dedication to this district. I also thank director Iacoboni for his efforts over the last eight years and director Muccino for his four years of hard work. It has been a pleasure getting to know them and working with them. I appreciate their leadership and their advice.”
President Aaron Bialon also told the directors that he would miss their input on the board.
“I thank you all for your different perspectives and views on the issues we face,” said Bialon. “You have all helped me grow as a board member. I’m proud to have worked with you and even more proud to call you my friends.”
The directors who were departing also offered statements.
“The last 16 years have gone by fast,” said Stringhill. “But I have enjoyed my time here and am proud of what I have done.”
“I want to thank all of the citizens for putting their trust in me,” said Muccino. “I may not miss some of the headaches, but I will miss the people.”
In other matters, the board received an award from the Government Finance Officers Association for excellence in financial reporting.
Business manager Eileen Navish pointed out that to receive this award, a district must be in the top 5 percent of reporting finances.
“I think this is something the entire board can be very proud of,” said Navish.
Marilyn Goodwell of JP Morgan presented the award to Bialon.
“The purpose of this award is to recognize and encourage excellence in reporting,” said Goodwell. “This gives a clear review to the government of the district’s finances each year. A very small number of districts actually receive such standing. Preparing a thorough report tells the world that you believe in full disclosure, and full disclosure is what the taxpayers deserve.”
The board also conducted the following business:
– Approved use of the high school gym on Jan. 17 for the Mon Valley non-denominational revival service, contingent upon compliance with the school facility use policy. The Christian-based group aids mothers and families through pregnancy care by providing counseling support, baby clothing and needs, and caring for infants.
– Approved the AP social studies class’ field trip to Williamsburg, Va., during the spring break. Approximately 30 participating students will finance the trip, and adult chaperones will be Robb Jenkins and Rodd Kavic, high school social studies teachers.
– Named Michael Grant head coach of the boys freshman soccer team, at the rate $2,644.
– Hired Megan McCall-Tomayko as assistant swim coach, at the rate of $2,603.
