Local woman receives prestigious award

Mildred Nemchik of Uniontown and a member of Catholic Water Veterans Auxiliary of Father Thomas J. Dunn Post 1669 was the recipient of the prestigious St. Agnes Medal Award at the recent CWV National Convention in Pittsburgh. The award was presented by the Most Rev. Francis X. Roque, bishop protector of the Catholic War Veterans, U.S.A. Anna Rose Muzika, president of Auxiliary 1669, and past recipient of the St. Agnes Medal escorted Nemchik to Bishop Roque for the formal presentation following the convention Mass.

Nemchik has been recognized by the national committee for her dedicated and untiring efforts to follow the motto of CWVA, “For God, Country and Home.’ She has been a member of the local auxiliary since 1984 and served as auxiliary first vice president, 20th Chapter, Pittsburgh trustee and Department of Pennsylvania second vice president and trustee and is presently trustee for 1669 Auxiliary. Nemchik initiated several successful Catholic Action programs and has received awards on department and national levels.

In 1998, Nemchik was named Woman of the Year at the convention in Gettysburg.

Officials said, “Nemchik’s faith in God is unheralded. She is a devout Catholic and spreads the good word of our Lord. Mildred is very impressive by displaying her sincerity and kindness to others. She has devoted time and volunteered many hours to increase the success of all auxiliary programs.

Nemchik is a member of St. Mary the Nativity Church in Uniontown. She and her husband, Frank, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She was formerly employed by the Uniontown Area School District.
