American Cancer Society honors volunteers

By Lee Wadsworth/ 1 min read

More than 50 volunteers gathered recently at The Sun Porch Restaurant in Hopwood to celebrate the unit’s success in cancer control programs and fund-raising efforts during the past year. Within the past year, 184 American Cancer Society services were provided to cancer patients in Fayette County. Volunteers who work on the programs “Reach to Recovery,” “Tell A Friend” and advocacy were recognized at the banquet.

Income development volunteers who organize the annual Daffodil Days and Relay for Life events were also honored.

All donations benefit the society’s program in early detection of prevention of cancer, local patient services, advocacy and cancer research.

Special awards were presented to the following people:

n Marcia Cohen of Uniontown, the Care Giver Award.

n Ed Kustron of Uniontown, the Spirit Award.

n Sandy Tracy of Uniontown, Volunteer of the Year Award.
