Robert D. “Herk” Swaney
Robert D. “Herk” Swaney, 69, of Fairchance, Pa., died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in Uniontown Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
He was born Feb. 20, 1934, in Fairchance, Pa., son of the late Palmer W. Swaney and Nellie Hickle Swaney.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, George W. Swaney, Frank Swaney, William Swaney, Clayton Swaney and Raymond Swaney.
He was employed with the Fayette County Housing Authority for 40 years until his retirement.
Herk was an avid gardener, loved working outside and raising beautiful flowers.
He was a member of Alfred Wilson Memorial VFW Post 7219, American Legion Post No. 51, and American Legion Post No. 499.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Patty Hartman Swaney; three daughters, Candy Nicholson and husband, Art of Fairchance, Pa., Connie Epley and husband, Robert of White House, Pa., and Cathy Krichbaum and husband, Bill of Smithfield, Pa.; five grandchildren, Staci Nicholson, Bill Krichbaum Jr., Leanne Nicholson, Bobby Epley and Laura Dawn Krichbaum; and by five brothers and one sister, John Swaney of Fairchance, Ida Sutton of Fairchance, Normond Swaney of Continental No. 2, Merle Swaney of Hopwood, Pa., Earl Swaney of Shoaf, Pa., and Nelson Swaney of Wheaton, Md.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church St., Fairchance, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Wayne Sawyer officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield, Pa.
