Virginia E. Laughrey
Virginia Etta (Snyder) Laughrey, 87, of Williamsport, Pa., and formerly of Fairchance, Pa., died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in Manor Care South, Williamsport, Pa. She was born June 19, 1916, in Fairchance, Pa., daughter of the late Ray Snyder and Lilly Victor Snyder.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Gayle Snyder and her husband of 49 years, Earnest Laughrey, who died on July 12, 1990.
Virginia and Ernie were married in the Fairchance Free Methodist Church and lived 48 years in Fairchance, prior to the last ten years of her life when she lived with her son and family in Williamsport, and attended the Faith Wesleyan Church.
She was a faithful member of the Fairchance Free Methodist Church and participated in many of the organizations within the church. She also served as substitute pianist for the church for a number of years. She had a love of music from childhood and often sang at gospel meetings as part of a quartet with her parents and sister. In addition, she sang with the Fairchance Trio for weddings, funerals and civic programs. Virginia could play several instruments including the piano, violin, mandolin, harmonica and guitar.
She was also an accomplished seamstress and as such made most of her own clothes. She also crocheted and did crafts.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Glenn R. and Donna M. McErn Laughrey; a grandson, Eric Ernest Laughrey; and granddaughters, Joy Lynn White and husband, Scott and Julie Rae Delker and husband Weslee, all of Williamsport, Pa.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church St., Fairchance, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Wayne Sawyer officiating. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa.
