Area man participates in marathon in Germany

Al Stancato, a 73-year-old Belle Vernon man, recently participated in the Berlin Marathon in Germany to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program. Stancato finished the race with a time of six hours and 22 minutes and finished third in the 70 and over category in the marathon, which included 51,000 participants. He walked with his 46-year-old daughter, Monica Boyd of Hollywood, Fla.

Since 1996, Stancato has participated in 10 marathons and has raised more than $50,000 for the organization to date.

Since its inception, more than 150,000 participants, who have been inspired by leukemia patients and their stories, have raised more than $350 million for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to use for research and patient services.

Team in Training participants take part in more than 40 national and international marathons, century rides and triathlons.
