Catherine M. (Shultz) Skocik
Catherine M. (Shultz) Skocik, age 91 years, formerly of Oliphant Furnace, Pa., went peacefully to her Eternal Rest from Kane Regional Nursing Center in Scott Township, Pa., on Friday, April 23, 2004, at 11:30 a.m. while her daughter and son-in-law were by her side. Catherine was born on November 12, 1912, in Brownfield, Pa., daughter of Stephen Shultz and Mary Veno Shultz.
Catherine was a member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, Pa., for 86 years and was also a member of The Rosary Society.
She attended Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Moon Township, Pa., for the past five years where she was a member of The Ladies Guild and Fifty-Five Plus Association, and also a member of Jednota Lodge.
The past five and a half years Catherine lived with her daughter Joan and her husband Vic in Moon Township, Pa. she visited with her son Steve and his wife Betty numerous times in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
Catherine was a kind and generous lady and will be missed, but never forgotten, by her family, relatives and friends!
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Andrew H. Skocik, sisters, Yustin Shultz, Madeline Susa, Marie Shultz and Anna Duritsa, sisters-in-law, Mary Balchak, Kathryn Skovran, Mary Skocik and Veronica Gebe, and brothers-in-law, Russell Marano, Fred Valentich, John Skocik Sr. and Martin Susa Sr.
Surviving are two children: daughter Joan M. Ference and husband Vic who reside in Moon Township, Pa., and son Steve A. Skocik and wife Betty who reside in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
Catherine has four grandchildren: Richard J. Ference and wife Anne of Scottsdale, Arizona, Barry A. Ference and wife Antoinette, Wexford, Pa., Ronald A. Ference and wife Carla, Aliquippa, Pa., and Walter S. Ference and wife Lori Ann, Bethel Park, Pa. Catherine was blessed with six great grandchildren: Andrew and Matthew Ference, Aliquippa, Pa., Haley and Austin Ference, Wexford, Pa., and Jenna and James Ference, Bethel Park, Pa.
Also surviving are two sisters: Margaret Valentich of Sevierville, Tennessee, and Elizabeth Marano of Fairchance, Pa.; sister-in-law, Ann Skocik of East Chicago, Indiana; and brother-in-law, Edward Skocik and wife Irene of Uniontown, Pa.
The Family will receive Friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, April 27, until 9 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, 50 Morgantown Street, Fairchance, Pa., with Rev. Fr. David A. Nazimek as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa.
