Man refuses plea bargain
A Footedale man accused of forcing a woman he knew from a Uniontown bar and raping her last August refused a plea bargain Monday that would have put him behind bars for four to eight years. Shane Takacs, 29, of house 227 is charged with rape, indecent assault, false imprisonment and simple assault. Uniontown police alleged he saw a 23-year-old woman he knew at Darby’s Pub and Restaurant late in the evening on Aug. 7, 2003, and the two began talking around 12:30 a.m.
The woman, according to police, had four or five beers and a shot of liquor when Takacs grabbed her by the arms and told her she was coming home with him. The woman, at an earlier hearing, testified she though Takacs was joking.
Police allege he led the woman to his truck, and then got inside himself and started driving. They stopped about 15 minutes later, when they reportedly reached a wooden garage.
There, claimed the woman, Takacs raped her.
At Takacs’ preliminary hearing the woman testified she tried to push him off of her, but could not, and pleaded for him to stop.
After the alleged assault, the woman told police Takacs put her clothes back on and drove her to a relative’s home in Hopwood.
The two knew one another through an Internet personal ad. The alleged victim testified at a preliminary hearing that she turned Takacs down when he asked her out on a date.
The case will be listed for trial in Fayette County Court in the coming months.
