Bullskin officials approve contracts
BULLSKIN TWP. – Supervisors awarded several contracts on Wednesday. The first contract was awarded to Amerikohl of Normalville for various size rocks for $19,325. Better Materials of Springfield Pike was awarded a contract to provide pre mix ID 2.
The supervisors also agreed not to use the low bidder for ashes. Chairman Walter “Deb” Wiltrout said Oliver Co. of Leechburg was awarded the contract, however, the ashes they delivered were not up to standard.
Supervisors instead agreed to give the contract to the second lowest bidder, Nicholson Resource of Brier Hill, and said that their ashes were much better.
In other matters, the supervisors announced that spring cleanup will be held in the township as follows: District 1, May 6 and 7; District 2, May 13 and 14; and District 3, May 20 and 21. Wiltrout asked that residents put their discarded items out the night before pickup.
The supervisors additionally said that township residents who want to participate in the Fayette County Hard-To-Recycle Drop Off event on May 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. could do so at the Fayette County Fairgrounds.
Items that will be accepted are used motor oil, anti-freeze, kerosene, hydraulic oil, fuel oil and transmission oil. This service is provided for do-it-yourselfers only, according to the supervisors.
Additional items to be discarded are used tires as long as they are removed from passenger cars and light trucks and taken off the rims.
Large steel appliances such as washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, hot water tanks and stoves will also be accepted. A Freon technician will be at the fairgrounds to remove refrigeration chemicals.
Cleanways and M.W. Platts, Inc. will accept broken televisions sets, microwave ovens, radios and computers. Items that will not be accepted are household hazardous waste items and paint cans.
A fee of $1 per tire and $1 for old electronic items will be charges as well as a fee of $2 for each large steel appliance.
In other business, the supervisors:
– Agreed to have solicitor Don McCue begin the process of adopting the “opt in” ordinance for the state-mandated Uniform Construction Code. Supervisors said they will “opt in” to the Fayette County program. The ordinance has to be formally adopted no later than July 8.
– Read an announcement that the West Newton Avenue of Flags Memorial will be open from May 1-June 4. Wiltrout said more than 400 full-size American flags are displayed in the West Newton Cemetery honoring deceased veterans.
