Julia P. Peters R.N.
Julia Prudence Peters R.N., 94, of Smithfield, Pa., died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in her residence. She was born Oct. 28, 1909, in Smithfield, Pa., daughter of the late Russell Jenkins and Della Sara Glover Jenkins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Peters and sisters, Olive Springer and Dorothy Keslar.
Julia was a registered nurse for physicians in New York City hospitals for most of her life, until her retirement. After retirement, she returned to Smithfield, Pa., where she made her home with her daughter, Nancy for the last 30 years.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Sue Swaney and Glenn Swaney of Smithfield, Pa.; grandchildren, Glenn “Hoodle” Swaney and wife, Joyce, Daniel Swaney and wife, Ginny and Reed Swaney and wife, Arlene “Red”, all of Smithfield, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Tiane and Rob Pierce, Mike and Nicole Kingan, Joe and Jennifer Mercer, Kristy and Jason Walker, and Justin Swaney, Stacey Swaney and Sarah Swaney; great great-grandchildren, Julia Walker, Hunter Walker, Robbie Pierce, Ryan Pierce and Cameron Pierce; and her sister, Foresta Decker of Smithfield, Pa.
She was a member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Smithfield, and the Victory Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church St., Fairchance, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, May 1, 2004, until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Jay P. Hurley officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield, Pa.
