Louis R. Vaccaro, 95, of McClellandtown, Pa., died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in the Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Pa. He was born Oct. 8, 1908, in Lamberton, Pa., a son of the late Nicola and Angelina Barretta Vaccaro.

Mr. Vaccaro was a retired coal miner from the U.S. Steel Robena mine. He was a member of the McClellandtown Presbyterian Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, a choir member for over 50 years, and serving in many offices within the church. Mr. Vaccaro was the last remaining charter member of the McClellandtown Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a charter member of the German Township Lions Club and one of the original organizers of the Silver Threads of McClellandtown. Mr. Vaccaro was a member of the UMWA Robena Local 6321.

He is the last of his immediate family.

On Sept. 30, 1933, he married Margaret Arthur Vaccaro, who survives. They celebrated their 70th anniversary on Sept. 30, 2003.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, L. Arthur Vaccaro and his wife, Lois of McClellandtown, Pa., and Nicholas F. Vaccaro and his wife, Joyce of Parma, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Mary Ann) Saluga of Uniontown, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Lisa Bailey, Denise Barnhart, Richard Vaccaro, Nick Vaccaro, Michael Vaccaro, Maggie Shamp, Douglas Saluga and Julie Nagy; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great great-granddaughters,

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Charles Vaccaro.

Friends will be received on Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m., in the H. DAVID MCELROY FUNERAL HOME, 803 Main St., McClellandtown, Pa., and Sunday, May 2, 2004, from noon to 2 p.m., the hour of services in the McClelland Presbyterian Church, McClellandtown, Pa. Interment will follow in the Church Hill Cemetery, McClellandtown, Pa. A firemen’s service will be held at 7 p.m., on Saturday.
