C. Dalton Herring

C. Dalton Herring, 93, of Farmington, Pa., passed away Monday evening, Nov. 29, 2004, at his home. He was born Feb. 17, 1911, in Elliottsville, Pa., son of the late Thomas Newton Herring and Eliza Jane Collier Herring. He was the last of 11 children.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle Sipe Herring in 1997; a great-grandson, Peyton Guthrie; and these brothers and sisters, Albert Herring, Ethel Holt, Walter Herring, Grace Sliger, Oscar Herring, Alonzo Herring, Zola Christie, Dorothy Albright, Paul Herring and Woodrow Herring.

Surviving are his daughter, Barbara Wilburn of Farmington; two granddaughters, Michele Guthrie and husband, Kevin of Farmington, and Jamie Frost and husband, Carl of Angier, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren, Carl R. Frost II, Jonathan Frost, Shawna Guthrie and Jordan Guthrie.

Dalton was a member of Farmington Church of the Brethren, was the owner/operator of Dalton Herring Lumber Company, was a charter member of Wharton Hunting and Fishing, and was an honorary member of Farmington Volunteer Fire Department.

Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME OF FARMINGTON, today from 2 to 9 p.m., and Thursday until 11 a.m., the hour of the service, with Pastor Steve Davis and Pastor David Herring officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department or to the church of your choice.
