Mary L. Smithley
Mary L. Smithley, 79, of Point Marion, Pa., died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in Beverly Health Care, Waynesburg, Pa. Born July 6, 1925, at Penn Pitt, Pa., she was a daughter of the late David and Nellie Rogers Hoar.
She had worked as a clerk at various retail shops in Point Marion, over the years, and had been an active member, holding a number of different offices, in the Ladies Auxiliaries of the F.O.E. No. 1932, the V.F.W. Post 747, and the American Legion Post 499, all in Point Marion.
Surviving are four children and their spouses, Walter “Sonny” and Linda Smithley of Dilliner, John and Bonnie Smithley of Texas, Kenneth Smithley of Carmichaels, Pa., and Judith and Clarence Wade of Dilliner; 11 grandchildren, including Todd Smithley of Nemacolin, who took care of Mary’s affairs for the past several years, and a number of great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Rimmel of Dilliner, and Rosella Bunt of Point Marion, and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a grandson, Marlon Wade; and a brother, Zedker “Zip” Orr.
Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with Pastor Edward Woods officiating. Interment follows in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion.
