Readers give more for needy
The 2004 Give-A-Christmas campaign rose to $3,960 Wednesday as Herald-Standard readers contributed $295. Donations came from Uniontown, Merrittstown, Keisterville, Fairchance, Perryopolis and Smithfield, ranging from $4 to $100.
“Thank you, everyone, for participating,’ said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is the official mascot of the campaign. “But our goal is $35,000, and we need to raise a lot more to reach it by Christmas Eve. Remember, all this money goes to help the Salvation Army and will be used to help people in your neighborhoods. Won’t you help today?’
Sparkle also shared some nice notes she received in the mail:
“Thank you for promoting this campaign. The Salvation Army is deserving of our support,’ wrote Lois Brant Smoley of Keisterville.
“Sparkle, hope this little bit will help out,’ wrote Sandy, Dee and Ryan Howell of Smithfield.
Wednesday’s donors included: Vicki and Steve Hartsek, Uniontown, in memory of the Rev. Jim Tweardy; Judy, Gary and Jennifer Rable, Merrittstown; Thomas Esper, Uniontown; Arnold and Norma Husk, Uniontown; Frank and Lois Smoley, Keisterville, in memory of departed loved ones; Calvary United Methodist Church 11/72 Rebekah Circle, Uniontown; Elroy and Margaret Angelo, Fairchance; Thomas and Esther Cunningham, Uniontown; Norma S.
