Give-A-Christmas gains donations toward goal
Herald-Standard readers contributed another $200 to the 2004 Give-A-Christmas campaign on Friday, bringing the total to $5,860. The donations came from Uniontown, Masontown, Markleysburg and Smithfield, ranging from $10 to $100. The campaign’s fund-raising goal is $35,000.
“We really appreciate all the donations you send in,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is the official mascot of the fund-raiser. “And, the Salvation Army and the people it serves thank you.”
Friday’s donors included Faith Assembly of God, Uniontown, in memory of the Rev. Jim Tweardy; Rose Ann Valeri and family, Masontown, in memory of John Valeri Sr., John Valeri Jr. and Timothy J. Valeri; Jacqueline Roby, Uniontown, in memory of Inez M. Thomas, Keith Alan Roby and Devon Paige Roby; Junior Girl Scout Troop 3089, Markleysburg; Mary Girod, Masontown; and Glen and Audrey Chrise, in memory of the Rev. James Tweardy.
All funds contributed to Give-A-Christmas are turned over to the Salvation Army service units in the Herald-Standard readership area.
Donations by readers are sent to the service unit that provides for the area in which they live, but readers can designate that their funds go to another service unit. Service units do not share funds. All money raised in an area stays in that area, unless the donor requests otherwise.
“So, your donation could help someone you know,” Sparkle said.
“The need in our area is great, so won’t you please give?”
The Herald-Standard will continue to collect funds through noon Thursday, Dec. 23. The final total will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition.
Donations can be mailed to Give-A-Christmas, P.O. Box 1147, Uniontown 15401 or brought to the desks of the Herald-Standard offices in Connellsville, Brownsville and Uniontown weekdays during business hours. Also, Sparkle cans have been placed in 250 store locations in the Herald-Standard distribution area.
