The education council of the Fayette Chamber of Commerce honored Jessica Barcelo of Fayette City, a junior at Frazier High School, as a student of the month for October. The daughter of Luis and Vicki Barcelo, she is undecided where she will attend college, but hopes to enter the field of medicine.
She is a part-time associate at the Goodwill Store and Donation Center in Belle Vernon and is involved in blood drives, youth football games, trick-or-treat for UNICEF and environmental cleanup projects. She is a member of the foreign language club, academic league, ecology club, National Honor Society, weightlifting, the gifted program, and Model U.N., and was named to the FCCA All-County Softball Team in 2003.
Students of the month are elected by their schools based on academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and citizenship.
