John Sawka, 85, of Brownsville, Pa. (Centerville Boro), died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, in Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Pa., following a brief illness. Mr. Sawka was a retired coal miner, having worked for J & L Steel Corporation Vesta No. 5 Mine.

Surviving are a son, John Sawka, Jr. (Madeline) of Hasting, Mich.; three daughters, Joan Gordon of Brownsville, Pa., Hope Sakel (John) of Keymar, Md. and Ellen Marie Mislo (Mark) of Monessen, Pa.; one step-daughter, Linda Staley (John) of Brownsville, Pa.; two sisters, Katie Dranzo of Cokeburg, Pa. and Mary Stepko of Bentleyville, Pa.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, Pa. The family suggests donations that donations may be made to the Center in the Woods, 130 Woodland Court, Brownsville, Pa., 15417.
