News and Notes
Fayette County bear harvest best in southwest region With deer season still under way is was hard to catch up with any area WCOs for comments on the recent bear season, but Fayette County had another banner year.
While the total fell four bears short of last year’s record kill of 61, the county topped the Southwest Region harvest figures for the first time since the modern-day bear season was instituted well over a decade ago.
FISHING LICENSE INCREASE: Last week Governor Ed Rendell signed House Bill 2155 into law, granting the Fish and Boat Commission a license increase effective Jan. 1, 2005.
If it was on the news earlier, I missed the announcement. I saw it when checking the PFBC web site Wednesday.
Resident licenses will now be $21, trout stamps $8, Lake Erie stamps $8, combo trout/Lake Erie stamps $14 and senior licenses are $10 annual and $50 lifetime.
Boat registrations are also going up.
New two-year registration fees are $18 for unpowered boats; $26 for boats less than 16 feet; $39 for boats 16 to 20 feet and $52 for boats 20 feet and longer.
INTERNATONAL TRAP: Fayette Gun Club will begin shooting International Trap today.
Shooting begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.
In international trap, the trap moves up and down and left and right, giving the shooter many more shot possibilities that with traditional 16-yard trap shooting.
It is more difficult that regular trap, allowing shooters two shots at each bird if necessary.
Regular trap shooting will begin at 1 p.m.
All interested shooters can participate in the International and regular trap shooting by stopping at the club and signing up in the clubhouse.
