Blair B. Bierer

Blair Bruce Bierer, 81, of Connellsville, Pa., died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at his home. He was born Nov. 13, 1923, in Greensburg, Pa., a son of the late John L. and Gertrude Ross Bierer.

Bruce was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army with Company B in the 63rd Infantry of the 6th Division. He served in New Guinea and the Philippines before getting wounded in February of 1945. He as the recipient of several decorations and citations including the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Honorable Service Lapel Button of World War II. After the war, Bruce worked with his father in the Livestock Business. He then worked for General Motors at its Fisher Body Plant in Dravosburg for 23 years. He then went to work as an Auto Salesman in 1976, for Dirt Henry’s Motor Sales in Connellsville.

Bruce was a member of the Connellsville American Legion, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, and the United Auto Workers’ Local No. 544 in Dravosburg. Bruce was also a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Connellsville.

Bruce is survived by his loving family: his sons, Bruce R. Bierer and his wife, Rita Jo, John W. Bierer and Jeffrey A. Bierer and his wife, Rhonda, all of Connellsville; his daughters, Dixie Lee Lynch and her husband, John of Frederick, Md., Connie Lou Chesnik and her husband, Ronald of Walkersville, Md., Sally Jean Hixon and her husband, Jerry of Howard, Colo., and Deardra D. “Dee” Brown and her husband, Victor of Frederick, Md.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his close friend, Betty A. Altman Marvich of Youngwood and her family: a brother, Clayton Bierer of California; and his sisters, Beverly Livingston and her husband, Charles of Connellsville, Faye Richardson of Michigan, and Bonnie Sabota of Mount Pleasant.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Emma C. “Pat” Bauman Bierer in 1993; a son, Blair B. Bierer Jr.; two grandsons, Brandon Chesnik and John Francis Lynch; three sisters, Dora Florence, Sally Jean Bierer and Mary Lou Hays; and four brothers, Daniel Ross, John L. “Jack”, Robert A., and Carl Bierer.
