Herald-Standard readers donated $2,760 to the 2004 Give-A-Christmas campaign on Monday, pushing the total to $14,622. “That’s wonderful!’ said Sparkle, the Christmas star. “I think this is our biggest day of donations so far this year.’

The contributions included a $1,000 gift from Carolyn and Gerald Blaney of Chalk Hill as well as $500 from an anonymous contributor and $150 from the Laurel Highlands Senior High School cheerleaders, who raised the money from the concession stand at a recent Powder Puff football game. Several donors also contributed $100 apiece.

Groups participating included the West Brownsville American Legion Auxiliary 940.

“Thanks to everyone,’ said Sparkle. “Remember this money is going to the Salvation Army to help people in your own neighborhoods. If you haven’t participated yet, please help us today.’
