Merle D. Taylor
Merle D. Taylor, age 85, of Mill Run, Pa., passed away Friday, December 17, 2004.
He was born February 28, 1919, in Connellsville, Pa., son of Dewey Taylor and Anna Belle (Taylor) Inks.
He was a lifelong resident of Mill Run but was currently at Eicher’s Family Home in Normalville, Pa.
He married Margaret Scarlett Taylor on September 28, 1941, and was married 61 years. She died on October 30, 2002.
Merle was a Member and Past Master and Treasurer of Mill Run Grange 1109 and a member of the Pomona, Pennsylvania State Grange and the National Grange.
He was an active member and Deacon of Bear Run Church of The Brethren for over 60 years.
He was a World War II Veteran who served in the 71st Antiaircraft Coast Artillery in Vienna, Virginia, and then overseas in France and Germany with the 268th Ordnance Evacuation Company driving an M-25 Tank Transporter. He was a Life Member of V.F.W. Post 21 in Connellsville, Pa.
Merle loved to travel with his wife and visited and camped in all 48 states as well as Alaska and Canada. He also enjoyed spending winters in Florida at Marco Island KOA Campground.
He was also known for his ability to fix and repair about anything and over the years supplied used garden tractors, lawn mowers and trimmers to many in the area.
He is survived by two sons: Dennis Taylor and granddaughter, Mindy, and her husband, Mike Martinelli and great grandson, Dominic, and Dick Taylor and his wife, Dorothy, and Grandson, Matt, and granddaughter, Macey; brothers-in-law: Bill Scarlett and family, Glenn Scarlett and family and Duane Bayles and family; and a special friend and caregiver, Thelma Bryner.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, James, a stepsister, Gloria Bayles, and his parents.
Friends and Relatives will be received at the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, 111 EAST GREEN STREET, CONNELLSVILLE, Pa., on Monday from 2 to 9 p.m. where Services will be held Tuesday, December 21, at 11 a.m. with Bob Stein officiating.
Committal and Interment will follow in Indian Creek Baptist Cemetery.
A “Special Thanks” to all the Eicher Family Home and their aides and caregivers and also to the Albert Gallatin Nursing Service who made his final months so comfortable.
