George Gilbert Barber
George Gilbert Barber, age 94, a 60-year resident of House 113 (Post Office Box 13), Ronco, Fayette County, Pa., died peacefully Sunday evening, October 10, 2004, surrounded by his children and grandchildren and their love.
He was born November 13, 1909, in Josephine, Indiana County, Pa., son of Samuel Barber and Marie (Dori) Barber.
George was a longtime member of Saint Mary’s (Our Lady of Perpetual Help) Roman Catholic Church in Leckrone, Pa.
He was a retired coal miner from United States Steel’s Robena Mine with 37 years service and had served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
The most important and greatest love of George’s life was his family!
He will forever be remembered for his love of life and his generous nature.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Verna M. Bugosh Barber on March 9, 1986, three brothers, Andrew Barber (August 6, 1981), William R. Barber (September 28, 1982), Jack Barber (1951), two sisters, Jean Barber and Rose Barber (May 17, 1994), and his parents.
George leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted children: Gilbert Barber of Coalfield, Oliver Springs, Tennessee, Joanne Barber Grimes of California, Pa., and Daniel Barber of Dublin, Ohio; three daughters-in-laws: Carol Barber of Hopwood, Pa., Mary Sue Futrell of Coalfield, Oliver Springs, Tennessee, and Linda Newman Barber of Dublin, Ohio; a son-in-law, Robert H. Grimes of California, Pa.; seven grandchildren: State Trooper Jeffrey Barber, Damon Barber of New York, Dr. Greg Barber of State College, Pa., Diane Barber of Franklin, Tennessee, G. Douglas Barber of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jocelyn Nissa Grimes-Saurini of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Joel Kendall Grimes of Pittsburgh, Pa.; step-grandchildren: Terry Eisele and his wife, Michelle Kozak, of Columbus, Ohio, Denise Farris Barber, Anna Lee Anderson-Barber, David Johnson and wife Raezean of Harriman, Tennessee, Bill Johnson and wife Cynthia of Ballplay, Tennessee, Wesley Wyrick of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Adam Barber of Coalfield, Olive Springs, Tennessee; three great grandsons: J. Scott Barber, Zachery John Barber and Matthew Seth Barber; step-grandchildren: Brooke Johnson, Matthew Johnson and Sarah Johnson of Ballplay; and two beloved sisters: Margaret Barber of Cabbage Flats, Greensboro, Pa., and Grace Barber Brothers of Tarrs, Pa.
George’s family will greet friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 West Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale, Pa., today (Tuesday, October 12) from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. where a Blessing Service will be held Wednesday, October 13, at 9:30 a.m.
Funeral Mass follows at 10 a.m. in Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale, Pa., with the Rev. Father Leonard W. Stoviak as Celebrant.
Committal Services will follow in Saint John Parish Cemetery, Scottdale, where George will be buried next to his beloved wife “Vernie”. His grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
