Holiday campaign total reaches $27,569
Herald-Standard readers are feeling the Christmas spirit of giving and are helping the 2004 Give-A-Christmas campaign move toward its goal of raising $35,000 for the Salvation Army. Readers contributed another $4,217 to the holiday fund-raiser on Monday, bringing the campaign total to $27,569
“As always, people in our area are showing their generosity this Christmas,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, mascot for Give-A-Christmas. “But we have only a few days left in the campaign to reach our goal. We hope the community will continue to show its support.”
The campaign received numerous donations Monday, coming from residents in Uniontown, Hopwood, Masontown, Lemont Furnace, New Salem, Belle Vernon, Fairchance, Merrittstown, Gibbon Glade, Smithfield, Newell, McClellandtown, Adah, Smock, Brier Hill, Dunbar and Chalk Hill.
The Fayette County Medical Society Auxiliary contributed $2,000, while an anonymous Hopwood resident gave $500, “in honor of our soldiers fighting for peace.” Frances and David Abel gave $300, New Life Free Methodist Church donated $200, and several groups and individuals gave donations ranging from $10 to $100.

“Thank you so much for your wonderful gifts,” Sparkle said. “It speaks so much for our community that so many people are willing to help the Salvation Army give a Christmas to those less fortunate in our area.”
All donations go to help the Salvation Army, and contributors may denote which Salvation Army service unit they’d like their gift to support.
The Herald-Standard will continue to collect funds through noon Thursday.
The final total will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition.

Box 1147, Uniontown 15401 or brought to the desks of the Herald-Standard offices in Connellsville, Brownsville and Uniontown weekdays during business hours. Also, Sparkle cans have been placed in 250 store locations in the Herald-Standard distribution area.
