ROMAN CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF PITTSBURGH is asking all parishes to take up a special collection Jan. 1-2 or 8-9 to aid relief efforts in South and Southeast Asia following the catastrophic earthquake and tsumanis of Dec. 26. All proceeds will be sent to Catholic Relief Services, which, along with the Catholic Church, is spearheading relief efforts in the region. Catholic Relief Services is the official international humanitarian organization of the U.S. Catholic Community. The agency has had a significant presence in South and Southeast Asia for more than 60 years. CRS provides assistance in 99 countries and territories based solely on need. Those who wish to contribute directly to Catholic Relief Services may do so by sending a contribution to Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore, Md. 21203-7090, or to Catholic Relief Services, c/o Rev. Ronald Lengwin, Diocese of Pittsburgh, 111 Boulevard of the Allies, Pittsburgh 15222.
March for Life
MOUNT PLEASANT CHURCH OF GOD, located at 936 W. Main St., is taking a bus to the 32nd annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., on Monday, Jan. 24. A comfortable coach bus for the one-day trip will leave at 7 a.m. from the church and is estimated to return at 10 p.m. The March for Life grew out of reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court’s Jan. 22, 1974, decision in Roe vs. Wade. The March for Life begins at a stage near the Washington Monument with numerous speakers. The throng then peacefully marches up Constitution Avenue, concluding at the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court building. ABUNDANT LIFE CHURCH, located at 1239 Brownfield Road, Uniontown, worships today at 7 p.m., followed by a time of refreshments. The service and a message by Pastor J. Edward Loukota directed toward Generations X and Y. ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, announces on Sunday both the 9 and 11 a.m. services will celebrate Epiphany Sunday with the John Wesley Covenant Service and Holy Communion. The Rev. Tom Brown’s message will be “How Will Anyone Know?’ Special music will be provided by pianist Sharon Brown at 9 a.m. and the Asbury Chancel Choir, accompanied by organist Jim Hutchinson at 11 a.m. Also at 11 a.m., Loving Nursery Care is available for infants and children to age 4. BREAKTHROUGH WORSHIP CENTER, located on Ferguson Road in Mount Braddock, will hold a New Year’s Eve celebration at the church today at 7p.m. that includes praise and worship, special singing by Kelley Broadwater, dance and drama from Kimberly Wall and the message by the Rev. Adam Lawson, senior pastor, who will give an illustrated sermon entitled “Take It By Force.’
The church will also hold services Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. During both services, there are children’s ministries available and the youth group will begin meeting in January. The church also holds a midweek service on Thursdays at 7 p.m. On Thursday, Jan. 6, Apostle Mike Robinson of Friendsville, Md., will be speaking and continuing a series on leadership and five-fold ministry. The church is also preparing for its Grand Opening Celebration on Feb. 3-6 with special speaker, the Rev. Keith Collins of Pensacola, Fla. Collins is the president of the Brownsville Revival School of Ministry. Throughout the services, a praise band from the school will lead some of the worship. WHITE HOUSE FREE METHODIST CHURCH, located five miles south of Fairchance on Route 857 near Rich’s Garden Center, will have a New Year’s Eve service, starting at 7 p.m. with special music provided by Dorothy Guzik, Olivia Cale and Bob Guzik.
