Betty J. Mrvos
Betty Jane Sibert Mrvos of Kirwan Heights, Pa., died Sunday, May 2, 2004, after a long illness. She was born in Thompson No. 2, Pa., on Aug. 24, 1918, the daughter of George Scott and Anna Gertrude Lakin Sibert.
She was the widow of Samuel Mrvos Jr., who was Chief Clerk of the former Allegheny County Institutional District at John J. Kane Hospital.
Betty was a member of Holy Child Parish and was an active member of the Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America and the Altar Society. She also served as a lector.
Five brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
Three sons survive Betty, Paul T. Mrvos of Bridgeville, Joseph S. Mrvos and his wife, Rita of Dormont, and David A. Mrvos and his wife, Marylou of Lexington, Kt. Other surviving relatives are her brother, Dr. James G. Sibert and wife, Martha Lee of Torrence, Calif.; and a grandson, Sgt. Samuel A. Mrvos of Rockville, Md., currently serving in Iraq.
She received her LPN through the nursing program at St. Francis Hospital. She was the first LPN hired by St. Clair Memorial Hospital and served in the obstetrics department, nursery and delivery room. Mrs. Mrvos also served as a private duty nurse at the hospital and the local area.
Betty was a member of the Bridgeville Area Center for older adults and served as chairman of the program committee and as secretary for eight years. She was director and M.C. of the South West Delta Dance and Drill Team, a senior citizen dance troupe, sponsored by South West Services Incorporated.
Until poor health set in, she volunteered in the office of the same organization now known as Life Span-Bridgeville Senior Citizens Center.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 9 p.m., at BOGAN-WOLF FUNERAL HOME, 430 Washington Ave., Bridgeville. Services will be held at Holy Child Parish on Thursday, May 6, 2004, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Holy Child Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Child Parish or Family Hospice, 250 Mt. Lebanon Blvd., Suite 203, Pittsburgh PA 15234.
