Porter L. “Duke” Remington, age 84, of Clarksville, Pa., died Saturday, May 8, 2004, in his home.

He was born December 5, 1919, in Herbert, Fayette County, Pa., son of Porter O. Remington and Olive Gray Remington.

Mr. Remington graduated in 1938 from Brownsville High School.

He retired in 1984 as Mine Foreman from Gateway Coal Company with over 47 years of service.

Mr. Remington was a Team Captain of the Mine Rescue and First Aid Team and a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 6330.

He was a 30-year member and former President of Clarksville Borough Council, a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, a former Boy Scout Leader, a coach of Clarksville Pony League, and a player and coach of the Clarksville Merchants Baseball Team.

Mr. Remington was an avid collector of mine stickers and decals.

He also enjoyed golfing.

He was a member of Clarksville Christian Church.

On September 27, 1941, he married Catherine Good Remington, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons: David Remington and his wife Peg of Strongsville, Ohio, Mel Remington and his wife Jan of Fort Hill, Pa., and Roy Remington and his wife Marsha of Jefferson, Pa.; 10 Grandchildren: Shawn, Shellie, Chris, Brett, Jason, Michael, Brian, Renee, Ryan and Patrick; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Remington of Debary, Florida; and three sisters: Betty Colbert of Fredericktown, Pa., Norma Wines of Cocoa Beach, Florida, and Janet Atkins of Clarksville, Pa.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, George Remington.

Friends will be received in the BEHM FUNERAL HOMES INC., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Pa., Gregory P. Rohanna, Supervisor, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where Services will be held Tuesday, May 11, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Domenick Sgro officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Greene County Memorial Park, Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, Pa.
