Claude C. Saynes Sr.
Claude C. Saynes Sr., 78, of Lower Oliver 3, Uniontown, Pa., passed away Sunday, May 16, 2004, with his loving family at his bedside.
He was born in Whitwell, Tennessee, on February 1, 1926, son of Jule and Mary (Thacker) Saynes.
Claude was a Veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
He worked as a Coal Miner in the Isabella Mines and was a member of United Mine Workers of America.
Claude was a family man and devoted his entire life to his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Saynes, a sister, Mary “Will” Saynes Atterton, a daughter-in-law, Kathy Saynes, and his parents.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Betty L. Paull Saynes; two sons: Dennis Saynes of Smithfield, Pa., and Claude Saynes Jr. and wife Lori of Smithfield; three Grandsons: James Saynes of Smithfield, Dennis Saynes Jr. and fianc?e Colleen of Oliver 3, and Jule Saynes and wife Julie of Normalville, Pa.; two Brothers: Bill Saynes and wife Iva of Whitwell, Tennessee, and Paul Saynes and wife Louise of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a sister, Louise Saynes Slatton of Fort Overthorpe, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Hubert Atterton of Whitwell, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the THOMAS M. DOLFI FUNERAL HOME, 136 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, May 20, until 11:30 a.m. at which time a Prayer Service will be held in the Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Micah Kozoil and the Rev. Galen Winebrenner officiating.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, where Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 51 of Uniontown and North Union V. F. W. Post 8543.
