Warren Nelson Campbell
Warren Nelson Campbell, age 62, of Filbert, Pa., and formerly of New Martinsville, West Virginia, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2004, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Aspinwall, Pa.
He was born February 16, 1942, in Redstone Township, Fayette County, Pa., son of Earl and Margaret (Wolford) Campbell.
He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964 who served as a Military Policeman during the Vietnam Conflict. He served for the “Eighth of Eye”, which is affiliated with the military police. During that time he met several U.S. Presidents. He had the honor of being a guard at President John F. Kennedy’s funeral.
While living in Ohio he met President Gerald Ford while teaching golf to the blind.
He was a member of Stow Masonic Lodge No. 768 F. & A.M., V.F.W. Post 6327 in New Martinsville, West Virginia, General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood, Pa., Loyal Order of Moose No. 20 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 828.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Kenneth Campbell and Melvin Campbell.
He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Jean Campbell Morris of New York City, New York; brothers and sisters: Earl Campbell and his wife Mary Ann of Mentor, Ohio, Ruth Ann Thorpe of McClellandtown, Pa., Audrey McNatt of West Newton, Pa., Gary Campbell and his wife Becky of Filbert Heights, Pa., Wesley Campbell and his wife Joyce of Austin, Texas, Gilbert Campbell of Grindstone, Pa., Sharon Combs of Orange Park, Florida, and Carson Campbell and his wife Janet of Filbert, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, 35 South Mill Street, New Salem, Pa., today (Sunday, May 23) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Committal Service will be held Tuesday, May 25, at 11 a.m. in Salem View Cemetery, New Salem, where Military Honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood.
