Program scheduled
A “Salute to Veterans’ program and parade will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Center in the Woods, Route 88 between California and Brownsville. The program begins with a dedication walk led by attending veterans and will be followed by a patriotic program in the center dining room with the Rev. Norman Hunt as master of ceremonies. This event will kick off the Veterans’ Walkway phase of the Paving the Way brick program through the wooded area in front of the center.
Bricks may be purchased by friends, families, or organizations in honor of those who have served in the U.S. military from the American Revolution up to and including those in active service around the world today.
The program will include the national anthem sung by the new associate executive director of the center Jill Simmons. Simmons is a well-known Pittsburgh area vocalist who will also sing the national anthem at the Pirate game on Aug. 15. The “Salute to Veterans” program will conclude with a 21-gun salute in honor of those who have made the supreme sacrifice for our country.
After the program, there will be a receiving line to meet Simmons. Tours of the center, Adult Day Center and the Oaks Apartments will be available before and after lunch for newcomers to the center.
Reservations for lunch are to be made by noon today. For more information about the day, call Diane Kuppelweiser or Jennifer Teeter at 724-938-3554.
