Memorial Day The Albert Gallatin South Chorus, under the direction of Gail Diamond, will participate in the Memorial Day service at the Masontown Cemetery Monday following the parade.
The group will sing two special songs for the service, “Song for the Unsung Hero” and “The Voices of America.” The Memorial Day parade begins at 10 a.m. on Monday.
Yard sale
The Friends of the German-Masontown Library are planning a yard sale to be held on library grounds this summer. The date will be announced when plans are finalized.
When doing spring cleaning, residents are asked to save some of their unwanted items for this sale. Adult clothing or shoes will not be sold. Baby clothes will be accepted for the sale. The library will also be selling books at the sale.
Italian Ladies Circle
The Italian Ladies Circle will meet in the form of a picnic at the German-Masontown Park on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Everyone is welcome. Anyone planning to attend should call one of the officers to find out what is needed for the picnic.
Joshua Liston unity festival
The Joshua Liston unity festival was held on May 14 at the Masontown Elementary School. The evening was a great success. Ms. Tracy thanks Bob Stevens, co-chairperson, the Masontown Elementary School, including the staff, faculty, PTO, parents, students, community residents and others who helped in any way.
Special thanks also go to the Albert Gallatin School board directors, Central Office administrators, A.L. Wilson, D. Ferd Swaney, Friendship Hill, Plava and Smithfield elementary schools, Albert Gallatin South and North Middle Schools, Albert Gallatin Senior High and Communities In Schools for their help and support.

Bake sale
The Friends of the German-Masontown Library will hold a bake sale at Wal-Mart on Aug. 14. Anita Nolle and Donna Parish are co-chairmen of the event. This early notice may give all the wonderful bakers who contribute to the sale time to start thinking about what to bake for this year’s event.
Pentecost
The Grace Chapel Presbyterian Church, 1214 Walnut Hill Road, High House, will celebrate Pentecost at the 11 a.m. worship service today. Everyone is invited to attend this special service with special decorations to celebrate Pentecost. Everyone is asked to wear red to the service but red ribbons will be available for those who forget.
Sarri’s pretzel sale
Gen Rhoades, Friends of the Library president, reminds everyone that the Friends are holding a sale of Sarri’s pretzel rods. These sweets may be purchased for $1 per package at the library or at various businesses in the community. All proceeds benefit the German-Masontown Library. Outdoor service
The session, congregation and pastor, Rebecca Drover, of Grace Chapel Presbyterian Church, 1214 Walnut Hill Road, High House, invite everyone to their annual outdoor service on Sunday, June 20, at 11 a.m. on the church grounds.
A picnic will be held on the church grounds following the service and casual dress is encouraged. Make this the day you visit Grace Chapel.
Dr. Lee visits
Dr. Christopher Lee, a chiropractor who recently opened his practice in Uniontown, recently spoke at a Friends of the Library meeting.
He explained what a chiropractor does and talked about the benefits of chiropractic care.
Idlewild Park
The Frick Veterans’ Association will hold its annual picnic at Idlewild Park on Sunday, July 11. All Frick veterans and their families are cordially invited to attend this year’s event, which will be held at a new pavilion this year, C-2, in parking area C.
The Frick Veterans have held picnics at Idlewild Park since 1913 to promote friendship and goodwill for U.S. Steel employees, retirees, guests and their families. Frick Veterans’ Association membership is open to anyone with 15 or more years of service. Membership dues are only $5 per year.
The $5 dues entitle the member to receive one free admission ticket to the picnic, $5 in “Fun Money” which can be redeemed for food, games and refreshments at Idlewild Park, a 2004 membership card and discount admission tickets for family members.
To renew your membership or to join the Frick Veterans’ Association, please remit $5 by June 20 to Chip Yates, secretary-treasurer, 106 Mayflower Drive, Uniontown, Pa. 15401.
Christian Mothers
The All Saints Church Christian Mothers will meet June 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the All Saints Social Hall. This meeting will be a covered-dish dinner.

CROP Walk
The CROP Walk is almost here. Area residents will be walking the streets of Masontown to raise money to help feed the hungry in our community and the world. The walk will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, at the German-Masontown Park.
