Associated announces historic road seminar
The Braddock Road Preservation Association offers a prestigious history seminar annually on the first weekend in November. This year’s seminar will be held Friday and Saturday at Jumonville, located on Jumonville Road in North Union Township.
The speakers include the following:
– Friday: Willard Sterne Randall will lecture at 8 p.m. on “George Washington Triggers a World War.’ Randall is a professor at Champlain College in Vermont. He is an award-winning author of major biographies, including works on Ben Franklin, Benedict Arnold and Alexander Hamilton.
– Saturday: Tim Shannon speaks at 9 a.m. on “Blood & Smoke: The Pipe Tomahawk in War and Peace.’ Shannon is an associate professor of history at Gettysburg College, where he teaches early American, Native American and British history.
Dr. Frank A. Casell and James J. Steeley present “The Braddock Road in Westmoreland County’ at 10:30 a.m. Cassell is the president of the University of Pittsburgh, Greensburg campus, and Steeley is the executive director of the Westmoreland County Historical Society.
Dr. Robert Messner will speak at 1:45 p.m. on “Developments with Braddock.’ Messner is a longtime seminar participant and is from the Braddock’s Field Historical Society.
Steve Hinks will talk about “Archeological Excavation at Fort Pitt Blockhouse’ at 3:15 p.m. Hinks is an archeologist with Michael Baker Inc. and the son of longtime BRPA board member Don Hinks.
