State VFW auxiliary president to visit locally
Theresa Chambers-Groce, state president of the Pennsylvania Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, will make her official visit to District 23 on Saturday and Sunday. The dinner will be held Saturday evening at the Sun Porch Restaurant in Hopwood.
On Sunday, Chambers-Groce will make her official inspection of District 23, comprised of Fayette and Somerset counties. District 23 president, Georg Jean Zimmerman of Johnson, will preside at the 2 p.m. meeting at the Hamilton Maloy VFW Post 595 in Everson.
Chambers-Groce joined the Willie G. Childs VFW Post 974 in 1974 and became a life member of the auxiliary in 1989. She was elected president for 10 years and has served several offices including VFW National Home chairman 2003-2004.
She was elected junior vice president in 2002 and senior vice in 2003 to the state Department Ladies Auxiliary. In June, she was installed as president at the 80th annual convention held at Valley Forge.
She is a life member of the Pennsylvania Scotland School for Veterans Children and VFW National Home for Veterans Children. She is a registered service officer for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Veterans Benefits and a member of the Four Chaplains.
Chambers-Groce retired in 2002 from the CIGNA/ACE Insurance Co. where she was a licensed claims representative. She enjoys power walking and reading various literatures.
