Eugene E. Work

Eugene E. Work, 86, a lifelong resident of Mill Run, went to his Heavenly Home at 4:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born June 20, 1918, in Mill Run, a son of the late Grover C. and Marie Friend Work.

Eugene was a graduate of Connellsville High School with the class of 1937. He was a Varsity wrestler, and was the Middleweight Champion his junior year, and the Heavyweight Champion his senior year. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army with the 721st Ordinance of the America Division in the South Pacific Theatre of action. Eugene worked as a machinist for Anchor Hocking Cap and Closure Division, and retired from there in 1981 after 40 years. After his retirement, he continued to work, doing home renovations and repairs for 20 years. Eugene was an active member of the Indian Creek Baptist Church in Mill Run where he was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class, and also served as a member of the Board of Directors. He was a Charter Member of the Springfield Twp. Volunteer Hose Company, a Charter Member of the Mill Run Recreation Authority and a member of the Indian Creek Valley VFW No. 12019.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Prinkey Work; their four children, Sharon Weible and her husband James of Mill Run, Emerson Work and his wife Pamela of Frederick, Md., Marilyn Smith and her husband, Scott of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Jamison Work and his wife Dana of Cleveland, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, Justin, Stephanie, Seth, Julie and Chris Weible, Alix, Erica and Tyler Work, and Reid and Mary Kate Work; a brother, Glenn Work and his wife Sarah Etta of Mill Run; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Graydon F. Work; and two sisters, Rella Mae King and Della Mae Work.

Family and friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. Additional viewing will be held Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m., the hour of a funeral service, in the Indian Creek Baptist Church, Mill Run, with the Rev. John B. Davis officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in the Indian Creek Baptist Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the ICV VFW No. 12019.
