Light-Up Night will go on in Uniontown rain or shine
Officials sponsoring Uniontown’s Light-Up Night tonight note that the festivities will be held regardless of the weather. They note that in case of rain, the festivities will be held inside the sponsoring establishments.
The outing is being sponsored by the Fayette Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Uniontown Business District Authority.
The festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a parade on Main Street.
The theme for this year’s event is “County our Blessings.”
Santa will arrive in time for the parade, which will travel down Main Street and disband at the Marshall Memorial Plaza at Five Corners West.
Immediately after the parade, Mayor James Sileo will light the city’s holiday tree during a ceremony in Eberly Square, at the corner of Beeson Boulevard and Main Street.
Most businesses on Main Street and some on Morgantown Street have agreed to stay open until at least 7:30 p.m., but they will probably remain open for as long as people remain in town.
Several businesses will have sales or specials, and volunteers will distribute flyers listing those businesses. Choirs and bands will perform at various locations on Main Street, and hot chocolate, cookies and other treats will be sold at a number of places in town.
The popular horse-drawn carriage will return this year, offering people rides up and down Main Street.
In what has become a Light-Up Night tradition, children from local schools will make ornaments and decorate two holiday trees in the Fayette Building.
A special “Toys for Tots” collection will begin that night, with drop-off sites throughout town.
