East Huntingdon Twp. Fatal accident probed
The Allegheny County Coroner’s office said Randy Thomas, 48, of North Chestnut Street, Scottdale, was pronounced dead at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh at 5 a.m. Friday.
According to state police at Greensburg, Thomas died from injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday on Route 819 at the Summit Ridge Plaza, East Huntingdon Township.
Police said Thomas was riding a 2000 Harley-Davidson and was not wearing a helmet when the 10:41 a.m. accident occurred. Thomas was flown to UPMC following the accident.
Police said Leonard Latsko of Mount Pleasant, who was the other driver involved in the accident, sustained minor injuries. Police said the accident is still under investigation.
A coroner’s spokesman said Dr. Cyril Wecht will perform an autopsy Saturday.

Rape suspect held
Nikia Lee Smith, 30, of 54 Lincoln St., Uniontown, was ordered held for court on sexual assault charges state police filed in connection with a Sept. 30 incident. Smith was charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, simple assault and indecent assault. District Justice Rick Vernon ordered Smith held for court on all the charges at a preliminary hearing Wednesday and returned him to the county prison in lieu of $50,000 percentage bail. Police allege Smith sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman in a township residence.
Uniontown
Vehicle struck
City police said a group of males threw a concrete rock that struck and damaged Christie Eicher’s vehicle Thursday at 4:47 p.m. while she was driving on Connellsville Street near Byers Market.
A substitute teacher at Lafayette School, Eicher told police she recognized two of the males as Uniontown High School students.
She also reported the incident to Uniontown Area School District police.
City and school district police are investigating the incident.
The rock damaged her passenger door and hood. She was not injured.
Masontown
Man charged
Samuel Hull, 38, of Masontown, was charged with theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing a 12-gauge shotgun from Marie Reese’s Colonial Drive home Wednesday, borough police said. The gun was recovered. Hull was arraigned before District Justice Brenda Cavalcante and released on $1,000 unsecured bond. A preliminary hearing is pending.

Explosives found
Borough police said Parkvale Bank employees found two half sticks of dynamite Wednesday in a car the bank repossessed from a Brownsville resident. Police said the Allegheny County Police bomb squad was coming to dispose of the explosives. The incident is under investigation.

Theft reported
Emil Besedick of 411 Wood St. told the Southwest Regional Police that it was possible that someone had stolen his wallet, as he found it missing on Wednesday and could not recall when he had last seen it. The wallet contained about $10 and Besedick’s drivers license. Anyone with information should contact the police department at 724-929-8484.

Criminal mischief
Clarence C. Lelley of 500 Blind Lane, Apt. 311, told Southwest Regional Police that some time between 6 p.m. on Nov. 4 and 5:30 p.m. Nov. 5 someone scratched the entire right side of his vehicle while it was parked outside his building.

Police plan event
The Pennsylvania State Police reminded the public that with Thanksgiving approaching, the volume of traffic on the highways will be increasing. During this period, police said they are taking additional steps to ensure public safety on the highways.
The enforcement efforts include additional troopers patrolling highways, aggressive enforcement of occupant restraint and child safety violations, as well as crash causing violations such as DUI and speeding.
On education, Troop B in Washington will be conducting a free child restraint checkup event on Nov. 23 at the South Strabane Fire Hall # 2, located on Oakspring Road, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Parents who would like to have their child restraint checked for recalls and learn how to properly secure the seat are encouraged to attend.
Certified Child Restraint Technicians from the Pennsylvania State Police, South Strabane Township Police, and Washington Regional Highway Safety Program will be available to assist.
