Holiday campaign total stands at $2,000

2 min read

After a strong start, donations to the 2004 Give-A-Christmas campaign stalled on Friday.

Although the contribution total remained at $2,000 on the second day of the holiday fund-raising drive, Sparkle, the Christmas star, said she is confident that Herald-Standard readers will continue to contribute and help the campaign reach its $35,000 goal. “We got off to a great start with $2,000 in donations on the first day, and I know we can regain that momentum,” said Sparkle, the official mascot for the annual fund-raising campaign.

All donations are given to the Salvation Army service units in the Herald-Standard’s readership area, including those in Fayette, Greene, Washington, Westmoreland and Somerset counties.

Contributors may specify which service unit they’d like their donations to help, whether it’s the one that serves their community or one elsewhere. The Salvation Army units do not share the contributions they receive.

“So, by donating to Give-A-Christmas, you can help the needy in your community. These are people living right in your back yard,” Sparkle said. “Please be as generous as your means allow. Every little bit can help.”

The Herald-Standard will continue to collect funds through noon Thursday, Dec. 23. The final total will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition.

Donations may be mailed to Give-A-Christmas, P.O. Box 1147, Uniontown 15401 or brought to the desks of the Herald-Standard offices in Connellsville, Brownsville and Uniontown weekdays during business hours. Also, Sparkle cans have been placed in 250 store locations in the Herald-Standard distribution area.
