Sophia Buchan Kovach
Sophia Buchan Kovach, age 88, long time resident of Dilliner, Pa., died Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at home.
Born April 10, 1916, in Masontown, Pa., she was the daughter of Cvijan “Nick” Buchan and Mildred Lovric Buchan.
She graduated from the former Point Marion High School in 1936.
Sophia was a faithful member of Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church in Masontown, Pa., where she served as President of the Kolo Sisters for 25 years.
She was also a member of SNF Lodge, attended Carmichaels Senior Citizens, and was Past President of Shannopin Civic Club in Bobtown, Pa.
Surviving are her husband of 66 years, William Kovach, whom she married July 22, 1938; son, William R. Kovach and his wife, Beverly, of Brunswick, Ohio; daughter, Patricia Kay McIntyre of Brook Park, Ohio; four grandchildren: Raymond Barr, Carlene Rocheck, Stacy Easter and Christopher Kovach all of Ohio; 10 great-grandchildren; and many friends who will long remember her sweet smile and loving spirit.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Kate Kostanski, Mary Yatsko, Ann Kovach, a brother in infancy, and her parents.
Friends were received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, 501 Morgantown Street, Point Marion, Pa., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Visitation continues in SAINT GEORGE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH, Mason Heights, Masontown, Pa., today (Saturday, October 2) from 1 until 2 p.m. Services will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Father Rodney Torbic and Rev. Father George Yatsko officiating.
Interment will follow in the Saint George Cemetery.
Pomen Service was held in the Funeral Home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
