Capt. Walter C. Lencewicz

Capt. Walter C. Lencewicz, age 91, of Carmichaels, Pa., died Thursday, September 30, 2004, in his home.

He was born December 3, 1912, in Brooklyn, New York, son of Joseph Lencewicz and Katherine (Machnicki) Lencewicz.

Walter graduated from the former Cumberland Township High School in Greene County, Pa.

He served in the United States Army 47th Infantry 9th Division in North Africa, Sicily and Europe and was awarded seven Battle Stars, the Bronze Star Medal, and a Combat Infantryman Badge.

Walter was a member of Saint Hugh Roman Catholic Church in Carmichaels and V.F.W. Post 3491.

He retired from the former Fruehauf Corporation, Route 119 North, Uniontown, Pa.

A sister, Genevieve Savanick, brother, Joseph Lencewicz Sr., niece, Mary Anne Laumann, and parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by four nieces and nephews: Mary Dragan, Elyria, Ohio, Andrew Savanick, Moon Township, Pa., Joseph Lencewicz, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Stella Harris, Virginia.

Friends will be received in the PAUL MICHAEL LESAKO FUNERAL HOME INC., Paul M. Lesako, Funeral Director, 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, Pa., on Tuesday, October 5, from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Prayers of Transfer will be said at 10:30 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 11 a.m. in Saint Mary Roman Catholic Church, Crucible, Pa., with Rev. Father John Bauer as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Crucible, where Full Military Rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Post 3491 and American Legion Post 400.
