Council hires two, appoints one

Uniontown City Council hired two full-time employees and made an appointment to a board at its meeting Tuesday. Brandon Mahoney was hired as a full-time maintenance worker II in the sanitary sewer department at an annual salary of $21,112 effective Tuesday. He completed his probationary period.

James Goodwin was hired as a full-time truck driver in the sanitation department at an annual salary of $18,262.40. He also completed his probationary period.

Businessman Jeff DeMaio was appointed to the Downtown Business District Authority board to fill a seat vacated by Greg Parson. DeMaio’s term expires July 1, 2009.

In other business, council granted permission to the Sons of Italy in America, Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, and the State Theatre Center for the Arts to conduct an Italian music festival downtown from noon to 9 p.m. on Oct. 24. Main Street will be closed from Morgantown Street to Beeson Boulevard for the event.

The Uniontown Sons of Italy, Guiseppe Mazzini Lodge 231, was also granted permission to sell beer and wine by the glass during the event in Storey Square.

Mayor James Sileo announced that a Halloween parade will be held Oct. 27, beginning at 6 p.m. on Main Street, which will be closed.

Council also agreed to close Main Street from Beeson Boulevard to Gallatin Avenue from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 30 for the last farmers’ market of the season.
