Semmion L. Friend
Semmion “Sim” L. Friend, age 78, of Dixon Boulevard, Uniontown, Pa., died early Friday morning, October 8, 2004, in Cherry Tree Nursing Center, Uniontown. He was born in Friendsville, Maryland, on January 13, 1926, a son of Clifford Ernest Friend and Ethel (Kisner) Friend.
“Sim” was Protestant by faith.
He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army who served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. During World War II he was a member of the Medical Detachment, 1864 SCU Sta Med and attained the rank of Private First Class. During the Korean Conflict he was a member of Battery “B” 540th FA Bn. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal and attained the rank of Corporal.
He was a professional over-the-road-driver for Roley Trucking Company for several years.
“Sim” was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, his Son, Ronnie E. Friend (who died November 12, 1980), his five Brothers: Amos Friend, Ernest Friend, Claude Friend, James Friend and Raymond Friend, and his two Sisters: Violet Friend Frazee and Minnie Friend Thomas.
“Sim” leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted Wife of 59 years, Stella J. Teets Friend, whom he married January 1, 1945; his four Children: Danny Friend and his wife, Annie, of Columbus, Ohio, Gregory Friend and his wife, Mary, of Uniontown, Pa., Elaine and her husband, Dr. Larry Vignali, of Uniontown, Pa., and Patrick Friend and his wife, Susan, of Lehigh Acres, Florida; his 13 Grandchildren and his seven Great Grandchildren; and his Sister, Edith Friend Frantz of Hagerstown, Maryland.
Sim’s family will greet friends in the STEPHEN E. KEZMARSKY III FUNERAL HOME AT 71 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE, UNIONTOWN, Pa. (724-437-7555) today (Monday, October 11) from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. in the Funeral Home with the Rev. William D. Rodahaver officiating.
Private Committal and gravesite services will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa., with Full Military Honors accorded at the gravesite by General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Hopwood, Pa.
