Joseph S. Danko Sr.

Joseph S. Danko Sr., “Jedo”, 76, a long-time resident of Bobtown, Pa., entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 10, 2004, from his home, his loving family at his side.

Born October 21, 1927, in Edenborn, Fayette County, Pa., he was a son of Louis and Catherine (Lesko) Danko.

After 41 years service he retired from J&L Steel’s Shannopin Mine in Bobtown and was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 6159 and Saint Ignatius Roman Catholic Church.

For many years “Joe” was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved to listen to polka.

“Jedo’s Restaurant” in Dilliner and Greensboro was named in his honor and in his later years he enjoyed spending time at the restaurant visiting with his many friends and cheering on the Mapletown sports teams.

He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine G. Orban Danko on November 29, 2003, four brothers, Louis, Michael, and Frank Danko and Bernie in infancy, and his parents.

Surviving are his five children and their spouses: Joseph and Ruth Danko Jr. and Patty Lawhorne all of Bobtown, Susan Hill of Morgantown, West Virginia, Bernie Danko of Carmichaels, Pa., and Denise and Walter Clark of Bobtown; nine grandchildren: Kitty Scott, Tracy Kiger, Tina Williams, Bradley Myers, Tim Radcliff, Tom Novotny, George Novotny, Chris Danko and Joe Danko III; several great grandchildren; four sisters: Dee Chorba and Mary Boggio both of Uniontown, Pa., Ann Baden-Franczek of Willoughby, Ohio, and Catherine Zeleznik of Fairchance, Pa.; and a brother, Paul Danko of Cleveland, Ohio.

Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Thursday, October 14, at 10 a.m. in Saint Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Bobtown, with the Rev. Father Lawrence V. Holpp as Celebrant.

Interment follows in Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Greensboro, Pa., with his grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers.

Parish Vigil Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
