A Thursday night collision on Route 166 near Gray’s Landing in Nicholson Township claimed the life of a 27-year-old Smithfield man, who was a passenger in one of the two cars involved in the accident, state police said. Three other people were flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., with serious injuries.

Douglas A. Mosako Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:15 collision, police said.

He was a passenger in a car driven by Jason C. Nicklow, 30, of Point Marion, who was listed in critical condition Friday.

Police said Nicklow was traveling north when he lost control of his the car and collided with a car driven by Carrie M. Puzella, 18, of Point Marion, police said.

She was unable to avoid the collision and the front of her car impacted the passenger side of Nicklow’s car, police said.

She and her passenger, Jeremy M. Puzella, 18, of Point Marion, were also injured and were listed in stable condition in Ruby Memorial Friday.

Trooper Timothy Karpiak of the Uniontown station said he does not believe alcohol was a factor.

Deputy Coroner Elsie Dvorchak said blunt force trauma to head and face with a fracture at the base of the skull was the cause of death. Mosako was pronounced dead at 12:54 a.m. Friday, she said. He also had a broken leg.

Results of toxicology tests, which are required in traffic accidents, are pending, Dvorchak said.

Mosako is survived by his parents, Doug and Lois (Faye) Core Mosako of Smithfield, his fianc?e Rebecca Lindsay, son A.J., daughter Alissha, sister Lois (Missy) Mosako, and his paternal grandparents Connie and Elmer Mosako.

The family will receive friends in the John F. Brownfield Funeral Home, on Main Street in Smithfield, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday until noon, when the service will begin with the Rev. Carol Harden officiating.

Internment will follow in the Skidmore Family Cemetery in Lake Lynn.

Mosako attended Albert Gallatin High School and worked as a heating and air-conditioning serviceman.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed four-wheeling on weekends.
