Overholt Distillery fire ruled arson
CONNELLSVILLE TWP. – Investigators have determined that a Thursday fire that damaged a portion of the former Overholt Distillery was intentionally set. “We’ve determined the cause to be arson,” said state police Trooper James F. Brownfield, investigating fire marshal with the Uniontown Barracks.
Pechin Leasing Inc. of Dunbar now owns the former distillery, which is currently being used as a storage facility.
Brownfield said that the fire was started in the distillery’s former cafeteria area and was contained in a small area.
The 9:13 a.m. blaze summoned 11 fire departments to the scene, halted rail traffic and delayed vehicular traffic along Broadford and Distillery road for several hours.
Damage to the building was estimated at $20,000.
Brownfield said that state police are continuing to investigate the incident.
