Man jailed
John C. Phillips, 34, of Carmichaels was placed in the Greene County Jail on $100,000 at 10 percent bond on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and hit-and-run after Phillips allegedly abandoned his vehicle along Pumpkin Run Road after it struck a 2004 Cadillac Deville driven by Cynthia J. Giles, 55, of Fredricktown at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

ATV rider hurt
Michael B. Polinski, 30, of 4 Park Road, Charleroi, was listed in fair condition Tuesday in Allegheny General Hospital after an all-terrain vehicle accident Monday on Palmer Hollow Road. State police said Polinski, who was wearing a helmet, was traveling south at 3:15 p.m. when he crossed into the northbound lane and crashed into a guide rail. He was thrown from the vehicle and landed against a utility pole.

Three injured
State police said three people were taken to area hospitals with injuries after a two-vehicle accident at the corner of Route 21 and Leckrone-Highhouse Road Monday at 7:13 a.m. One driver Robert Self, 20, of Bobtown, and his passenger, Mike Ross, 35, of Greensboro, were listed in very good condition at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., Tuesday. The driver of the second vehicle, Terry Joyce, 39, of McClellandtown, was treated at Uniontown Hospital.
Police said the accident occurred as a traffic signal at the intersection was changing, and are asking anybody who witnessed the crash to call the station at 724-439-7111.

Police impersonator
State police said a man posing as a police officer pulled over Robyn Qualk of Third Street, Belle Vernon, on Route 43 at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
The impersonator was dressed in a dark blue uniform and was driving a dark blue unmarked police-type car with a portable red light on the roof, police said. After he pulled over the woman for an alleged traffic violation, he told her the car she was driving was stolen and that she had to go with him. She drove away, and the impersonator did not follow, police said.
The suspect was described as white, in his early 40s, 6 feet tall, 175 pounds, with dark and wavy short hair, a goatee and no mustache. He was wearing dark, large-framed sunglasses.

Business burglarized
Someone rammed the front door of Sweet Pea’s at 732 Morgantown Road with a vehicle, shattering the glass door, and then stole money and lottery tickets at 12:49 a.m. Tuesday, state police said.

Power outage
A possible lightning strike just after 11 p.m. Monday in the Kerr Street area left 67 Allegheny Power customers without power until shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday. City police and firefighters were dispatched to Kerr Street for a report that a transformer exploded.
Allegheny Power spokesman Allen Staggers said a lightning arrestor, which was probably hit by lightning, came into contact with a line fuse bracket and knocked out service in the immediate area. The outage affected residents and businesses on Askren Street, Kerr Street, Hogsett Street, Whyle Avenue, Walnut Street, Lenox Street and Wilson Avenue.

Houses entered
City police responded to two reports of juveniles entering abandoned houses Monday. The first call came in at 12:46 p.m. at 75 S. Grant St. Police said they were not able to secure the front and back doors, which were open, and asked a neighbor to call the owner. The second call came in at 7:41 p.m. at 6 Austin St. Police said they found three juveniles inside and removed them.

City police said 13-year-old Shamera Jacobs ran away from the Home Again shelter on Cleveland Avenue on Monday. She was described as black, 5 feet 1 inch tall and 135 pounds, and was wearing a white top, blue jeans and a black jacket.

Wire stolen
City police said a chain link fence around the Verizon shed at 50 W. Kerr St. was cut late Sunday or early Monday and four rolls of barrier wire, valued at $250 each, were stolen from the yard.

Driver injured
State police said Raymond Means, 69, suffered moderate injuries after he hit a tree along Route 711 on Monday. He was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital.

State police said Nancy Jo Rowan, 68, and Paula F. Brothers, 37, were involved in an accident on Route 201 at 9:56 a.m. Monday. Both were treated for minor injuries at Highlands Hospital.

City police said Mary McElfresh of 35 Prospect St. reported that a battery-operated all-terrain vehicle and a battery-operated tricycle were stolen from her back yard Monday around 7:20 p.m.

Citations are pending against two women for allegedly slashing tires on a vehicle owned by Amy S. Davis of Farragut Street, city police said. She reported the incident Monday at 9:54 a.m.

City police said someone drove an older black car with a hanging exhaust through the lawn at St. George’s Church at 9:20 p.m. Monday, damaging some shrubbery.

State police said neither Sheila Meade, 35, nor David Porter, 59, both of Connellsville, was injured in an accident at the corner of Bell Road and West Crawford Avenue at 4:50 p.m. Saturday. Meade’s 12-year-old passenger also was not injured.

A criminal mischief citation was filed against Louis Offerman III of Monongahela for allegedly smashing the windshield on a vehicle owned by Carol Natle of Fayette City with a bottle in a bar parking lot Monday at 12:01 a.m., state police said.

Jason Nicholson, 21, of Normalville was not injured after his 1998 Toyota traveled off Englishman Hill Road and struck a tree and an embankment at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, state police said.

State police said John Ehrhardt of Perryopolis suffered a minor injury after the 1993 Chrysler Lebaron he was driving traveled off Route 201 and struck a tree at 11:19 a.m. Monday.

Stereo stolen
Someone stole the stereo from Perryopolis resident Colton Oldham’s 1990 Honda Prelude by breaking the passenger window out of the vehicle while it was parked along Interstate 70 near the Arnold City exit between 9:15 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday, state police said.
