Michael J. Sveda, 70, of Jefferson, Pa., died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, in Washington Hospital. He was born Tuesday, November 28, 1933, in Fairhope, Washington Township, Fayette County, a son of the late Michael and the late Mary Billy Sveda.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, Fayette City, National Pike Steam, Gas and Horse Association and Charleroi Knights of Columbus. He retired as a machinist from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are his wife, Thelma Lester Sveda; one son, Michael J. Sveda and wife Heather, Fairhope, Belle Vernon, Pa; one brother, Thomas Sveda and wife Florence, Charleroi, Pa.; one sister, Joanne Wiggins and husband Edward, Belle Vernon, Pa.; two grandsons, John Michael Sveda and Russel Sveda.

Friends will be received in the ELEY-MCCRORY FUNERAL HOME, INC., Main Street, Fayette City, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, until 9:30 a.m., when a blessing service will take place, followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in the Holy Spirit R.C. Church, Fayette City, with the Rev. Fr. Leonard McAlpin as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Bowman-Flatwoods Cemetery, Vanderbilt, Pa. Parish Wake Service will take place today at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
