Helen (McCann) McCarty, 80, of Hopkinton, Mass., died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at her residence. She was born December 9, 1923, in Masontown, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde W. McCarty, in 1994; a daughter, Judith Stratton; a brother, Robert McCann; a sister, Barbara Bohan; and her parents, Wallace and Barbara Ellen Ewart McCann.

Surviving are her daughter who is a retired school teacher, Patricia McCarty, of Bradford, Mass.; three sisters, Margaret Avery of Masontown, Pa., Mary Lou Kantes of Independence, W.Va., and Betty Jenkins of Point Marion, Pa.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Helen was a member of Redeemed Baptist Church, Lake Lynn, Pa., and was a dedicated volunteer for the town of Hopkinton. Among the organizations that she helped are the Hopkinton Senior Center, Hopkinton Food Pantry, St. John the Evangelist Church Mustard Seed Soup Kitchen and St. John’s Rummage sales.

Friends will be received in the BERNARD M.TOWNSEND FUNERAL HOME, 220 South Main Street, Masontown, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday until 2 p.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. French Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Greendale Cemetery.
